I believe we can all agree that the Word of God is the best guide to observe, and Jesus Christ is the best and only one to follow.

 

So, if our standard is the Word of God and our example is Jesus Christ, then we must acknowledge that He devoted His earthly ministry to making disciples.

 

It is crucial to establish a clear biblical definition of discipleship.

 

The danger of an incomplete or incorrect definition of discipleship is that it can hinder the multiplication of disciple-makers.

 

Some say Discipleship is...

 

Grounding a new believer in the Christian faith,
Bible Study,
Training to disciple,
Evangelizing,
Building a Relationship with your disciple,
Teaching the Bible, and the list could go on.

Our definition goes further.

 

Our definition is that discipleship is training a disciple-maker.

 

That means you may have to carry out many, if not all, of the activities we just listed, among others, to multiply a disciple-maker successfully.

 

We define a disciple as someone who learns from God's Word through a disciple-maker to become a disciple-maker.

 

And a disciple-maker is a trained discipler whom the pastor has confidence in to take care of and train a new or young believer to become a disciple-maker.

 

And one-on-one discipleship is the key.
